Air Fryer Donuts Recipe

Making donuts from scratch in an air fryer is very easy! Air-fried donuts taste just like the genuine thing without deep-frying!

For the Donuts: – 1 cup warm whole milk (105 to 110F)(240mL) – 1 (0.25-ounce/7g) packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons) – ¼ cup plus 1 teaspoon granulated sugar divided (62g) – 6 tablespoons melted unsalted butter (85g) – 1 large egg at room temperature – 3 cups all-purpose flour plus additional for dusting (360g) – ½ teaspoon salt – coconut or olive oil cooking spray For the Glaze: – 3 cups confectioners’ sugar (120g) – ½ cup whole milk (120mL) – 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter – ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

INGREDIENTS

Make donuts: Mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl. Wait 5–10 minutes for mixture to bubble.

Step 1

INSTRUCTIONS

Blend melted butter, eggs, and ¼ cup sugar in a stand mixer bowl using the dough hook until smooth. Stir in yeast mixture. Add salt and flour.

Step 2

Mix slowly to shaggy dough. Mix the dough on medium-low speed for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. A little sticky dough.

Step 3

Place dough in a large, lightly oiled bowl. Wrap and let rise for 1 hour 15 minutes in a warm, draft-free atmosphere to double.

Step 4

Cover a large rimmed baking sheet with flour and parchment. Punch down rising dough. Spread ½-inch-thick dough on a lightly floured board.

Step 5

Reroll scraps after cutting 12 donuts and 12 holes with a donut cutter. Donuts can be cut with 3-inch and 1-inch circular cookie cutters.

Step 6

Place donuts and holes on baking sheet. Leave loosely wrapped in a warm, draft-free place to double in size in 15–20 minutes.

Step 7

Preheat the air fryer at 350°F for 10 minutes. Prepare air fryer basket with frying spray. Place donuts 1 inch apart in the air fryer basket in batches. Apply oil sparingly to tops.

Step 8

Bake donut holes for 6 minutes and big donuts for 8 till golden. I recommend frying big and little donuts individually because they cook differently.

Step 9

For Glaze: Mix confectioners' sugar, milk, melted butter, and vanilla in a medium bowl until smooth.

Step 10

Glaze heated donuts and holes. Let the glaze set on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving. Keep leftovers sealed for 3 days.
